HAPPY NEW YEAR!
Wed 12/31/2003 9:39 Happy New Year, eveyone!
Best wishes for a happy & healthy 2004. I, for one, am truly excited about 2004. I'm fond of the leap year, don'tchaknow!!!!
Resolution for 2004...try to get a little more organized, huh!!??? I'm a little scattery. I used to think it was um charming or something but, uh - NO. Example - I'll write little things here on the Well site, and sometimes I will write some stuff here... and sometimes, but hardly ever, here. See what I mean? Who am I? Where am I? Huh??? Get it together lady!!!!
Okaybye!

Andrew WK, how do I love thee?
Fri 11/14/2003 9:23 Our pal Jason found this little gem that is certain to bring a goofy smile to yer face. It seems that a couple of kids decided to spread the gospel of Andrew WK and headbanged their way through campus, then hit the streets, all the while blasting AWK on a boom box. They encouraged everyone they encountered to party along!!! They brought their portable party into classes, dorms, and even a movie, the small group snowballing to 17 partiers...it's a riot, really.
I want to party with them.
Do you?
Click here if you want to PARTY HARD!!! -Linda

My song of the day is...
Wed 10/29/2003 14:27 The Darkness, "I believe in a Thing Called Love". Reminds me of Sweet and maybe Queen, with some of the spirit of Andrew WK too. And you know how much I adore the WK, don't you? And now you will rock... you'll be singing this all day!!!!!!
My favorite part is when he yells "gui-tar!!!!"
PS: the video is hiLARE! -Linda

My Weekend Of ROCK.
Mon 10/13/2003 13:01 My Weekend Of Rock
by Linda Bean
Frankly, it had been awhile since I had been out to see and hear much rockness (...with the exception of our show last weekend, that is!) So, this weekend, numbers 1, 2, and 3 on my to-do list, were "witness acts of rock." And so...Friday Night: Paradise Rock Club, Boston. Helicopter Helicopter and The Sheila Divine It's always great to see the 'copter. I love Julie's guitar lines - I love that she has such a specific sound that is truly all her own. Her parts remind me of jolly insects at play. HAHHRhr! (Really, they do!) At the show I met a sweet fellow, who I'll call...Bill B. (But it wasn't Bill Bixby. Or the Incredible Hulk.) A special shoutout to Bill B, who told me that people actually do read these little musings here. Hurrah!!! Anyhoo, Helicopter Helicopter have a new album out - go get it, it's called Wild Dogs With X-Ray Eyes. My favorite tracks are "Talk the Flyer Down" and "Helicopter Fight Song". The Sheila Divine hit the stage for one of their final shows and delivered a set of their tremendously big-sounding, heartfelt numbers. Swoonworthy indeed. And there were Belgians in the audience! Real live BELGIANS. Aaron's got a new band called Dear Leader, who are also on Lunch Records. The tunes sound dang purty, from what I've heard, less anthemic, more on the mellow side. Likey. Saturday Night: The Plan @ Great Scott's, Allston. The Wrens and Bon Savants...and The Plan You already know how excited about the Wrens I am (see previous writing). But I am also excited about THE PLAN at Great Scotts. Certain nights at Great Scotts are booked with great bands paired with the Plan DJs who play just the music that I want to hear! It's kind of like an in-person KEXP! It was an amazingly perfect scene. The Bon Savants were a nice suprise - pretty guitar-y indie rock. And The Wrens - well, they still got it!!!!! I can't really describe how intense a show theirs is. Their music makes me want to run really fast. (But towards the music, not away from it.) The evening was a combination of favorite things. And that's damn good.
Sunday: School Of Rock, Lowes Assembly Square Theater, Somerville. Jack Black rocks. But you knew that. Go see this movie! It'll make you smile. Know why? Cuz it ROCKS. I'm still trying to perfect Jack Black's rocknroll handshake. And looky here - there actually does seem to be a real School of Rock! (Please, look at the Ironman video.)
And that, Friends, was my Weekend Of ROCK! Ciao! -Linda

What's On Me Head Now:
Fri 9/19/2003 9:20 Another one of my pals died recently. His name was Phelony Phil and he was the best. He played guitar in The Kenmores and The Syphlloids and he was such a rocker. A toast to you, Phelony. You are missed.
On a lighter note, I am becoming obsessed with The McDonald Brothers. You remember them - those Redd Kross dudes. But, oh so much more. Visit the site and watch their tv shows, videos for their other bands, etc. The theme song for "Bitchin' Ass" kills me. Read about Steven McDonald's experiment where he added some bass parts to the songs on The White Stripes "White Blood Cells" album. The 'Stripes really got a kick out of it - check out the album art - Redd Blood Cells
Also, very excited that The Wrens are back. Loved'em back then, and the new stuff gives me that same, tingly feeling!
I love wasabi peas so much, I'd like to take a bath in'em.
Johnny Depp as Jack Sparrow = hAHrhHARHHRH!!!!
Currently listening to a LOT of Herb Alpert. I mean, A LOT.
I giggle whenever I hear the word "deterred". *snort!*
Harold & Maude rocked.
Black Box Recorder. Me likey. Suave.
and speaking of suave, my pal Paula Kelley has a new album out called "The Trouble with Success or How You Fit Into the World". Get it! She's divine.
That's it for now. I hope to see you all at TTs for our next show - Saturday, October 4th, with The Fly Seville!
-Linda

tragic : (
Mon 7/21/2003 10:30 Just heard on KEXP that a band I just heard about and started really REALLY digging last week - The Exploding Hearts - were in a crash yesterday and 3 of the bandmembers died. Man.
the bad news The Exploding Hearts.
Their songs Modern Kicks and Sleeping Aides and Razorblades are powerpop gems. This is so sad. -Linda

What's my favorite new tv show? Well it would have to be Queer Eye for the Straight Guy.
Have you heard of it? A team of 5 gay men give a total makeover to a straight guy (and his home) - they handle grooming, wardrobe, interior design, food and wine, and culture. It's super!!!
And so are YOU. -Linda

KEXP - best music EVER.
Thu 2/27/2003 12:51 Hey you guys. A while back, Jeff and Jen turned me onto the best radio station ever - KEXP, in Seattle. I've been hooked ever since!!!! You can listen at their website KEXP.org or get there thru I-tunes. I absolutely adore John in the Morning. Tee heee! It's eeeeeerie how he plays everything I already love, and stuff I didn't know I loved til he played it - (examples:Ted Leo & The Pharmacists and Reggie Watts). Recent example of the spooooky mindreader-y thing he's got going on: played "A Town Called Malice" by the Jam, then threw in my favorite Strokes song ("Take it or Leave it"), and there was some Smiths in there too... he played my favorite Pixies song ("La La Love You") on Valentines' Day (...he had it ready to go before I requested it) ...etcetera!!!!! Anyway, right now, the station is having a pledge drive. I urge you to listen, and if you love'em like I know you will, send'em some $. John in The Morning, man. He's the BALLS. Stevie Zoom ain't no slouch either. Me likey. You likey too. -Linda

SNOW day list for YOU
Tue 2/18/2003 12:21 Hello, Snowbunnies. I hope you are all safe and sound after our big Presidents Day Blizzard! I hope Our Own Rameken (Robert) isn't stranded across the Pond in jolly olde Londontowne! Anyway, I thought I'd make a little list. Cuz, I like to make lists.
Latest Favorite YUM: I adore S'mint Intense Peach flavor candies. They come in an adorable little container, that reminds me a little bit of pez. And, I see from their snazzyass website that you can buy pens that have built in S'mint dispensers in 'em! Don't worry - you have quite a few shoppin' days before my birthday!!!! HAHRharh!!!! Jeff said that I was S'mintten with S'mints. He's right. He's S'mart.
Favorite tuneage Transplants: Diamonds & Guns Foo Fighters: Times Like These Reggie Watts: It's about Love Johnny Cash: Hurt (NIN)
Teeee Veeeeeeeeee I'm addicted to the TV show "24". It is so not relaxing to watch though! I sit there all nervous, jigglin' my leg, biting my nails, etc. To balance out all that stress, I'll tune into "The Isaac Mizrahi Show" - he's a lovable goof. And then, of course, theres "Nigella Bites" and "Oliver's Twist" over on the food channel. Mmmm. Yep.
Funtime thing Click here to see J. Mascis' video "Everybody Lets Me Down". If you look hard enough, you'll see my cameo as "Indie Rock Bass Player Chick". HAHRhahr! In the video, J is auditioning all kinds of people to be in his band. My pal Ad is masquerading as Rivers from Weezer. Lots of Boston rockers in there - it was really a fun time.
Favorite New Read I don't know how I managed not to know about Eloise until now. Eloise is a 6 year old girl who lives in the Plaza in NYC, and she's pretty punkrock if you ask me. Love. Her.
Favorite miscellaneous Kiehl's lipbalm, always good, always a classic. *smooch!* -Linda

Slow work day...
Wed 9/18/2002 9:56 §?±?day's show at the Linwood in Boston was great! A big "thanks" to those who made it down.
This has pretty much nothing to do with anything, but I was bored at work last week and made this thing. As most of my friends (and band mates in particular) know, I'm a big fan of the Asian restaurants. And the more I ate at Chinese restaurants, the more I started to see a trend in their names. I started joking that I should make a Chinese restaurant namer... and last week I did. Check it out. -Jeff

Fri 6/28/2002 9:50 Really sad to hear the news of John Entwistle's death. Any bass player worth her salt has an appreciation for his stylings. I'll raise a pint in his memory...
Back before I joined up with Orbit, my friend Adam and I were messing with forming a mod band. We got together a few times with our friend James, who is a great singer and keyboardist, and had another talented fellow come in and play guitar with us. We would play some really early Who stuff, like "La la la lies" and "A Legal Matter", as well as stuff by the Faces ("Whatcha Gonna Do About It"). I really love playing that style of music, and all the vocal harmonies and stuff. Before we could even get into writing our own songs, the Orbit thang came up, and there I went. But it was a sweet little time we had, me-n-my mod buddies. -Linda

What's in my CD player...
Tue 6/18/2002 17:00 Actually, I got an iPod, but I thought it would be a little pretentious to title this "What's in my iPod". But still I did mention the iPod so think what you will...
DJ Shadow - Private Press - Kind of up and down. Well put together. I really enjoy the more textural slow stuff.
Doves - The Last Broadcast - Saw them play in Boston last night. Great! The album is fantastic. Swirly, but varied just enough so that I don't get bored. Listen to this album in bed.
Breeders - Title TK - The jury is still out on this one. Nice to hear that Breeders sound again. I'll be at the Boston show in July.
Eels - Souljacker - I totally set this album aside before my wife came back to me and said how great she thought it was. So I listened again... and I can't stop. Another great Eels album.
Chemical Brothers - Come With Us - I have to admit that it took several listens before I "got" this album. Michel Gondry's video for "Star Guitars" is AMAZING... You can see it here. Also check out his video for Let Forever Be.
Anxiously awaiting the new Flaming Lips album (July 15th). -Jeff

Andrew W.K. took the words right out of my mouth.
Wed 4/24/2002 12:48 You know it's gonna be a good day, when you wake up singing Andrew W.K.'s gem, "Party Hard": *ahem* mememe meeeeee...
When it's time to party we will party hard
You, You work all night (all night) And when you work you don't feel all right And we, We can't stop feeling all right (all right) And everything is all right
'Cos we will never listen to your rules (no) We will never do what others do Do what we want and we get it from you Do what we like and we like what we do
So let's get a party going (let's get a party going) Now it's time to party and we'll party hard (party hard) Let's get a party going (let's get a party going) When it's time to party we will always party hard Party hard (party hard, party hard, party hard...)
All right You, You break the thing And when you play you feel all right But we, We can't stop feeling all right (all right) And everything is all right
'Cos we will never listen to your rules (no) We will never do what others do Know what we want and we get it from you We do what we like and we like what we do
So let's get a party going (let's get a party going) Now it's time to party and we'll party hard (party hard) Let's get a party going (let's get a party going) When it's time to party we will always party hard Party hard (party hard, party hard, party hard...)

MY NEW FAVORITE THANG!!!
Fri 4/19/2002 8:19 Sweets, you simply must look at this website. I am so taken with Queer Duck and his friends. I'm especially fond of BiPolar Bear, as his voice is like Paul Lynde's. RuPaul sings the Queer Duck theme song, and Jim J. Bullock voices Queer Duck himself. The theme song reminds me of the Top Cat song a little. But maybe because it has the line "he's intellectual". But in Top Cat, they didn't rhyme that with "he's homosexual"! I LOVE LOVE LOVE this and can't get enough! " Episode 6 is my current fave. Oh, my gay stars!" -Linda

What's on my TiVo
Mon 4/15/2002 16:45 I heart my TiVo! It's totally changed the my tv viewing. No more commercials. No more channel flipping. We've got an old one that doesn't record much, but it still rocks! Right now I'm addicted to Six Feet Under, The Osbornes, 24, Junkyard Wars, and West Wing. And you? -Jeff

The Osbournes!
Wed 3/6/2002 12:04 Babies!
I have a new fave tv show: The Osbournes!
It's like Real World (which I NEVER watch anymore, feh) with Ozzy Osbourne and his family. HAhrhAHRHAHR! They ALL have pottymouths, and every few seconds, a bit of conversation is beeped out. In this first episode, they were moving into a new mansion, and unpacking boxes marked "linen", "china", "dead things"...
It's a bit nutty.
Me likey!!!
By the way! Well kicked art gallery ass at the Oni Gallery show Saturday night. The video portion of the set worked like a charm - nice job Jeff and Wayne! SPECIAL THANKS TO THE FABULOUS CHRIS, who assumed roadie duties for this show and toted heavy equipment up (and then back down) many many flights of stairs. You da man!
We'll see y'all at the next show - April 6th - at TTs with the illustrious Helicopter Helicopter! YOW!!!!!
Over-n-out. -Linda

Pretzel Goes Surfing
Mon 2/18/2002 20:20 Saturday was up to 40 degrees, so I went surfing with some friends of mine. I'm still not very good. I've only been surfing since September and my best trick so far is falling off the board, but we got some cool underwater video footage for the shows.
Did anyone mention our nicknames? Linda named Robert "Ramekin". I named Linda "Scribbles". And Linda named me "Pretzel" on-a-count-a my flexibility. Now that you know our secret names you can stop spinning straw into gold. Free free you're all free now!
Woo. I'm feeling a bit feverish... -Jeff

Linda's Friday Greeting to YOU!
Fri 2/15/2002 10:21 Hey Valentines!
Shenanigans and bucketloads o' goodtimes at our Lizard Lounge show this past Wednesday! What a great bunch of performers and musicluvvers. Ad Frank and The Fast Easy Women were indeed a tough act to follow - but we cranked out a DAMN decent show, if I do say so myself! HAHrhAHRHARH!!! Go back to the Lizard next Wednesday for more Ad Frank fun. Our next show's March 2nd at the Oni Gallery in Chinatown. More info to come on that one, sugarplums.
Newsflash! I am totally addicted to those nutty little personality tests. So sue me.
Whoah! Look at dat!!!! I'm Shirley Manson!!!!! Who knew?? ...and then there's this one... Which British Band Are You? Apparently, I'm The Manic Street Preachers.
And, obviously...
"You are ERNIE. You are fun, friendly, and popular. You are a real crowd pleaser. You have probably been out on the town your share of times, yet you come home with the values that your mother taught you. Marriage and children are important to you, but only after you have fun. Don't let the people you please influence you to stray."
I took the "which member of Radiohead are you? test and I am Colin Greenwood, bass player, of course. And according to the "which Beatle are you?" test, I am Ringo. I even took a "which cocktail are you?" quiz - I was a pink girly Cosmopolitan. This is really getting out of hand!!!!!!!
Now playing: Husker Du - Everything Falls Apart and More
Ciao, bellas! -Linda

Making Movies
Sat 2/9/2002 10:42 For about the past week or so my friend Wayne and I have been starting to put together video projections that will play behind the band on stage. It's pretty cool stuff. Hopefully we'll have them up and running by March. If anyone is looking to donate a professional video projector or Macintosh PowerBook to a good cause, please send us an email. We promise we'll put them to good use!
Still waiting for those MP3s to go up on MP3.com. Grrrr... -Jeff

New Band, New Site
Sat 2/2/2002 13:06 Wow. My head is buzzing from staring at the computer monitor for the past few days, but this website is almost done! We've got this cool system that not only allows us to easily add news to the site, but it also allows all of you to comment on stuff.
I've also moved the Orbit Message Board over here and upgraded the software. It's now the Well Message Board and anyone who had an account on the Orbit server now has one here.
This page is where Linda, Robert, and myself can write whatever we want without mucking up the important news stuff on the news page. And look! It's got a little picture of my head! If that ain't cool, I don't know what is.
Thanks for visiting the site. -Jeff
